Rallies

This page points you to "armchair rallies" - rally-like events you can "run" at home. They give you some feel for rallying, and they're fun.

Armchair Rallies at This Site

These rallies show you many facets of rallying by taking you on a "tour" of the pages at this site. Each one takes about 10 minutes and, at the end, your results are posted (in a few weeks) to the Web Rally Standings page.

The Warmup Rally is an introduction to the style of the web rallies at this Rally Central web site. You should run this one first, to get a feel for how these events flow and hone your skills for the more other, more challenging, rallies.

More rallies will follow at this site. Please visit back in a few weeks. We're planning a gimmick rally, a TSD rally, and a trap rally in the style of the Warmup Rally above. If you have any ideas along these lines, please send them to me at clint@goss.com.

Armchair Rallies at Other Sites

The Web Rally - This web site provides two rallies which consist of a list of clues. You attempt to navigate from page to page based on the clues.

Virtual Resolution Rally - This site by John Upham provides all the information for the 1995 Resolutions Rally, run June 1, 1995 in Hampshire, UK. The maps, contestant instructions, entry list, results, and event the entry form and newspaper articles are available.

Armchair DYL - A challenging "trap" rally, based on main road determinants and course following priorities. You follow route instructions, and determine Do-It-Yourself Leg (DYL) times based on a PostScript map. Not ideal for the first-time rallyist, because of the course following traps. Written by Bob Glickstein and maintained by Esther Filderman.

St. Valentine's Massacre - You sign up and get an atlas, a set of route instructions, and a list of questions. You try to answer the questions and mail them back, along with hundreds of other competitors. The people with the most correct answers win. Very, very challanging. There are several other armchair adventures by Massacre, but the yearly St. Valentine's Day Massacre is the big one.
